(Cleveland) – Cleveland Police are investigating a police officer involved shooting that occurred early Friday morning at E. 131st & Cain Avenue outside of Winston’s Place Bar.
Police say they got a call at about 2:00 a.m. of shots fired. Upon arrival police saw a man coming out the bar with a handgun. He was told by police to drop the weapon. The man ran away from police, who got out of their zone car and ran after him.
As the officers ran after the man, he turned, pointed the handgun at the officers and shot at them. The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times. The man was taken into custody, EMS was notified and took the man to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the arrested man was involved in an altercation inside the bar and removed from the bar. After being removed from the bar he obtained a handgun from a car. Once in possession of the handgun the arrested man returned to the bar and confronted the security guard at the front door. During the confrontation the arrested man shot once in the air and shot the security guard in the leg.
No police officers were injured.
