(Elyria)--If you live in Lorain or Medina County, or some Cuyahoga County communities where your trash is picked up by Republic Waste Services, there may be delays due to a work stoppage at a Republic facility south of Elyria.

If you call the Republic/Allied facility on Butternut Ridge Road, you get a recording that says "Members of Teamsters Local 20 in Elyria, Ohio have engaged in a work stoppage. We want to assure you we will make every effort to service you as scheduled."
One employee tells The Morning Journal that this is not a strike, but a work stoppage in support of other striking Republic employees.
Eric Vanhouten, general manager for Republic Waste Services Elyria, tells WTAM 1100 that they are only handling certain commercial customers today, such as hospitals. As for residential customers, Vanhouten says they're hoping this is just a one-day strike, and if not, they're planning to bring in workers from other Republic and Allied facilities.
Vanhouten says no matter what, residential customers of Republic in Lorain, Medina and western Cuyahoga Counties should expect to have their trash picked up one day late this week, as if Monday were a holiday.
Teamsters members have been on strike against Republic Waste Services landfill workers in Youngstown since last Thursday.
