(Painesville) - He's not exactly The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, but Lake County deputies have arrested a man who admits he stole money donated to the Salvation Army for Christmas.

Deputies have arrested Jeffrey Gregg, a man who admits he stole a Salvation Army kettle from the Giant Eagle store in Painesville Township on December 21. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a man walked into the Giant Eagle claiming to be the person who would handle the next shift manning the Salvation Army kettle at the store. After the real volunteer worker left, the kettle with money inside was stolen.

All this was captured on surveillance video. Detectives also found on the video that the suspect had spent the night before, parked in the store's parking lot inside a blue Buick. Believing the man to be homeless, detectives checked out parking lots in the Painesville and Mentor areas. After a number of weeks, they found a blue Buick matching the description in the parking lot of a motel in Mentor.

Gregg was identified as the car's owner, and after being confronted, he admitted stealing the Salvation Army kettle.
