Pitbull understands that anything you want in life, all of your passions and what you love, you have to fight for.

On the April 25 episode of the Math & Magic podcast, iHeartMedia Chairman and CEO Bob Pittman sat down with Mr. Worldwide during a live conversation at the POSSIBLE conference in Miami that covered a wide range of topics, from growing up in Miami and how that impacted his career to opening SLAM! charter schools that serve underrepresented communities. While talking about his creative process, Pitbull said he draws inspiration from what is happening in his own life.

"My ideas are developed around my life," he said. "So if you listen to the records, I'm always telling you, 'You're reporting live from the tallest building in Tokyo,' or 'Take advantage of the night because tomorrow I'm off to Dubai to perform for a princess.' You know, these are all things that happened to me in my life, so really what I'm doing is reporting, or we could call it journalism, on a beat."

Pitbull stressed the importance of not overthinking creativity, calling it his "No. 1 rule," of letting the ideas flow and "open the pipeline" of writing lyrics regardless of whether or not they end up on the record.

The "Fireball" hitmaker also told the story of how he got the moniker "Pitbull" from a friend, which led to him researching the dog breed and learning about their tenacity and determination and realizing that it was a good fit for him as "they don't understand what it is to lose." He realized he could apply that mentality to his own life

"Anything you are trying to accomplish in life, just know that if it's easy, it's going to go away fast," he said, adding, "Anything that you love, anything that you got passion for, anything that you believe in, you're gonna have to fight for it."
