GREAT GOLDEN PAIR - SEEKING LOVING HOME TOGETHER!!!

Name: Duke and Red - Pair

Gender: Male (Both Neutered)

Breed: Golden Retrievers

Age: Both are 5 years old

Size: Large, over 70 lbs.

Hi!
Thank you so much for checking us out! Our names are Duke and Red and we are brothers that lost our home due to our previous Mom losing hers. She was heartbroken to take us to the shelter, but she had no choice. So, now we are looking for a very special family that will take us both to live with forever. We are excellent with children and very well-behaved. We both have friendly personalities and are real lovers, snugglers and especially, cuddlers. We are happy to go outside to run around and play, then we like to come inside for a snooze. If you have room in your home for us, you will not be sorry!

Yours Truly,
Duke and Red

EVENTS

SATURDAY OCTOBER 4
Portage Animal Protective League is celebrating its 2nd annual “Hogs and Dogs Poker Run” on Saturday, October 4, 2008.  The event is open to all bikers and clubs who want to support caring for injured, abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

Registration for the event begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage APL shelter located at 8122 Infirmary Road, approximately two miles north of State Rt. 14 near Ravenna.  The Poker Run’s “thunder on the highway” begins with the first bike out at noon.  Stops along the way include Carlton’s Harley Davidson, PetSmart in Aurora, Home Savings (and Loan) near the Brimfield Wal-Mart, and Billock’s Ice Cream in Rootstown.  The Poker Run’s final stop and celebration is at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown where participants will enjoy a buffet dinner and learn if their poker hand is the $100 winner.  Other activities include a Chinese Auction, a 50/50 Raffle and door prize awards.

All activities for the day are being held on a “rain or shine” basis.  All Cycle types are welcome to participate.  Pre-registration is $15 (driver) and $10 (passenger).  Same day registration increases to $20 and $10 respectively.  Members of the public who do not ride in the event are encouraged to come out to watch the start and then attend an Open House at the shelter from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.

Anyone interested in the Poker Run can call 330-296-4022, ext. 105 for further information.  Registration materials are available at the Portage APL and all participating stops. View Flyer!

Give a Dog a Bone

There are a number of animals in NE Ohio who need homes.

Some are young. Some are old. Some are large. Some are tiny. Some are incredibly energetic. Some are quite shy. Some have had a very rough life. Some are only a few weeks old.

Although they come in all shapes and sizes, they have some major things in common:

  • They don't deserve to be living in a shelter, they deserve a loving home.
  • They will be forever grateful to the family who welcomes them into their home.
  • They have big hearts that are ready to latch onto a new owner
  • They just need to be given a chance

The chance part — that's where 96.5 KISS FM and our corporate partners on this program come in. Together, we're going to get the word out about local canines at mutiple animal shelters who need homes. Together we'll help 50 dogs find terrific homes.
