Portage Animal Protective League is celebrating its 2nd annual “Hogs and Dogs Poker Run” on Saturday, October 4, 2008. The event is open to all bikers and clubs who want to support caring for injured, abused, neglected and abandoned animals.
Registration for the event begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage APL shelter located at 8122 Infirmary Road, approximately two miles north of State Rt. 14 near Ravenna. The Poker Run’s “thunder on the highway” begins with the first bike out at noon. Stops along the way include Carlton’s Harley Davidson, PetSmart in Aurora, Home Savings (and Loan) near the Brimfield Wal-Mart, and Billock’s Ice Cream in Rootstown. The Poker Run’s final stop and celebration is at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown where participants will enjoy a buffet dinner and learn if their poker hand is the $100 winner. Other activities include a Chinese Auction, a 50/50 Raffle and door prize awards.
All activities for the day are being held on a “rain or shine” basis. All Cycle types are welcome to participate. Pre-registration is $15 (driver) and $10 (passenger). Same day registration increases to $20 and $10 respectively. Members of the public who do not ride in the event are encouraged to come out to watch the start and then attend an Open House at the shelter from noon to 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
